'Down your way' again... South Shropshire

Sunday saw us having a wander around South Shropshire, subtitled "Milestones" as we saw -

Image

Hmmmm, an Ordnance Survey marker stone... it's at the end of the overgrown hedge next to the left of the two pallets forming a makeshift gate...

Here on the map...

And later in the day -

Millennium Stones around a hamlet we passed through...

But also Milestones as our mate Phil returned to the fold in his latest Jimny -

Out for it's first shakedown...

And Alan, my faithful friend and regular passenger... recorded his 40th 'laning trip with us, and also catalogued his 500th unique 'lane driven during the day...

Enjoy the blog, it's a big 'un! ;)

The area around Gnosall, Cowley and Norbury are quite close to me. Ihad no idea of the lanes around there.
Where do you find your information of the lanes from.

Lots of research! By our Brett...

The national rights of way resource is http://www.trailwise.org.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; BUT you have to be a member of the TRF or GLASS to see it properly, without a login you can just see the rights of way BUT you can't see any of the notes left by other members, for instance, Brett will revisit Trailwise after each of our trips and leave notes about whether the RoW were driveable or not...

If I look at Trailwise for my own area (OS Landranger 116) there are a few 'lanes marked that aren't driveable, one says there is a ford that hasn't been there for over a hundred years, one is a Bridleway, etc, etc...

We then check routes and 'lanes with the local GLASS area rep' and/or the Rights of Way Officers for the local council(s) of the areas we intend to 'lane in.

Our blogs now feature maps of where we were (I never used to show them, just mention the area we were in), but research is also needed by anyone wanting to use the 'lanes / routes we have driven as 'lanes can be TRO'd (Traffic Regulation Order) to stop people using them, become impassable, have seasonal restrictions, etc...

It also depends on the vehicle spec' and size of course, as we sneak through obstructions in our Jimnys that other larger vehicles might not get through!...

Finally, Brett's trip reports are featured in his Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/164302134125311" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You'd have to ask Brett for access, including proof of membership of a greenlaning association - the TRF (Trail Riders Felllowship) or GLASS (Greenlane Association)
