Hi Benson, 215/15's are good, 205/16's on Grand Vitara wheels are better but you'll need a rocklobster transfer box to correct the gearing and also a set of wheelspacers as the offset isnt great. the 16's will need the front wheelarches trimming, the 15's may need a little trimming on the rear of the front arch.

if you trim the arches you can fit bigger as iv fitted 30/9.50/15 on mine with 2" lift and doesnt rub anywhere even on articulation however id like it to be 3" lifted for more belly clearance

Hi matey,

I have been modding my Mrs Jimny now for six month or so slowly adding bits here and there, you can play for ages as most people do here.

I bought some kingpin mud terrains (had insa turbos special tracks last, excellent in the mud, but noisey on the road) 31" 10.5 15's on modular rims and a 3 inch lift kit at the same time. Planning on trimming the arches aswell in order to fit the wheels on. They just about fit. They still catch slightly on the frnt bumper at full lock but only because I have not trimmed enough off yet.

Once I had done this I tryed it offroad, the mods made a huge difference. ground clearance a plenty. but you soon realise you are slipping the clutch all the time and the descent control is not very good because of the gearing being to high. Oh and the speedo is well out.

The next the mod is the transfer box, and this sorts it out. ratio's are varied. Mine is a rockloster converstion. Cracking job done by Rockwatt.

I have noticed that the bigger tyres and the time spent with the standard transfer box have caused the clutch to wear out quite quickly. If you can, change the transfer box as quickly as you can.

After doing some laning on the weekend, I have made another list of things I need to do before going out again.

-Change the clutch to a heavey duty, mine is now worn out at 35k.
-Make some new radius arms to properly castor correct, Long road journeys at speed are stressfull with a 3" lift and castor
bushes on 31`s
-Get some wheel spacers, feels top heavey, I am probably over cautious.
-This means I wll have to extend the arches somehow.

Next time I go out i will think of something else.

Money pit, but its great when landies get stuck and you sail past.

Cheers

Chris

Remember that a lift doesn't increase any clearance, the axles stay the same distance from the ground. Therefore changing your 2" lift for a 3" lift will not do anything significant. Yes, it will lift some of the undercarriage (t-box, gearbox etc) but the lowest point, the diff housing, will stay in the same place.

A 3" lift will let you increase the tyre diameter. Your current tyres at 30 inches are two inches bigger in diameter than the standard 28inch tyres. So you have increased the ground clearance over a standard car by 1 inch (halve of the extra 2 inches of diameter). As you can see it is a law of diminishing returns!

actually i said i needed belly clearence not diff clearence and standard tire size is 205/70/15 making them 26.3 inches so mine are 3.7 inch taller giving 1.85 inch extra diff clearance. tire size you can fit all depends on the work you can do or what you want to do etc
