Changing a Thermostat on a Vitara?

Post Changing a Thermostat on a Vitara?
Help! Newbie "Bob" needs some help!

Those that know me, know I don't "do" engines... after all, that's what garages do, and if we all did our own work they'd all go out of business, wouldn't they!

Anyway, this year, or rather next year!, I'm hoping to do more work myself on engines  The white-not-descript-Vit-with-no-name needs a new thermostat, the previous owner told me that when I bought the truck off him... sooo,...

Bought one off eBay, and before I start taking things to bits... anyone got any pointers? How easy is it?

Anyone? Before I go out and buy a Haynes Manual?

Not done one in many a year Bob, i dont remember it been hard lol!!, just make sure the two mating surfaces have been cleaned up, dont know if you need a proper gasket or the stuff out of a tube would do the job?. Top water up and check after it's warmed up for leaks, might be worth checking your anti-freeze at the same time m8. I'm sure some one will answer better than me.

Anywhere in Wales (north) would be good lol

Andy

There are two different types, one has a conventional paper type gasket and the other an O-ring. You need to get the right thermostat to fit the housing and also the right temperature rating, Suzuki changed the spec at some point.

Edit: The stat should be rated at 82C. You must also ensure that the air bleed valve is to the front of the engine.
