Calmini + Curry = Awesome.

Post by Munkee » Mon Mar 02, 2015 10:14 pm

It sucks when this happens;

Image

When I bought my calmini kit (second hand, much cheapness) the rear A arm rose joint was knackered, and had obviously been driven loose, so the hole in the diff bracket was ovalised and elongated.

One narrow 3/4" thread johnny joint was chosen, as they have an awesome reputation. They also take a 5/8 (nearly 16mm; HUGE!) through bolt, so I could bore out my mangled hole into a nice fresh one. Win-Win! With a 7mm plate either side of the JJ to take up the slack (welded in place), it all slotted into place perfectly.

Not fitted it yet, but should be on by the weekend. :mexican:

That looks cool, maybe one day I'll get mine done.

Meh, who am I kidding? I know full well I won't get mine done. Been trying unsuccessfully to get my diff swapped, and that hasn't happened either. Just got a quote off the garage and they want £100 to swap it. :(

procure
prəˈkjʊə
verb
1.
obtain (something), especially with care or effort.
"food procured for the rebels"
synonyms: obtain, acquire, get, find, come by, secure, pick up, get possession of; More
obtain (someone) as a prostitute for another person.
"he haunted railway stations to procure young girls for immoral purposes"
synonyms: be a pimp, be pimping; More
2.
LAW
persuade or cause (someone) to do something.
"he procured his wife to sign the mandate for the joint account"

:tongues1:

Wrex racing; 2"Narrow 3/4" r/h thread Johhny joint from Wrex racing

They didn't have it in stock, took about 2 weeks to arrive, I got the Jam nut at the same time. Needs a 5/8" through bolt (not supplied, got mine from ebay) and you'll need to drill out your bracket too (again, 5/8" bit from ebay).

When Wrex Racing ordered Munkee's Johnny joint, they ordered a second one too, which I then procured. I'll sell it you for £45.

Are you not going to do yours? (If not then deal)

Did you have to bore out and re thread the arm? As I believe the rose joint is 3/8 (I think ) and the johnny joint is 3/4.

The thread in the arm is 3/4" (roughly 18mm). 3/8" would be tiny (about 9mm!)...

The joint screw straight in, but the hole in the diff bracket has to be enlarged to 5/8".

Ah my bad. I prefer working in mm not fractions

do you have a picture of the joint facing straight on, so you can see welded piece on the bracket. If you fitted it already don't worry about it. ;)

Not sure what you'r asking?

If you mean the spacers, it's just basically 2 7mm thick washers either side of the heim joint.

If you're asking does the JJ hit the diff bracket at full articulation, it doesn't.

I'll get you a pic, but not sure what you mean?

Sorry I thought it was 7mm plate welded both sides. As for picture wise I meant turn the arm 90° clockwise so the johnny joint is in front. My bad
