Post subject:  Getting hacked off now...

I've tried everything I can think of, short of a full wheel alignment, but my truck STILL pulls to the left really badly.

Any one got any idea why?

Tracking is fine, tyre pressures are fine, shocks/springs are fine, camber is fine, tyres are wearing perfectly.

if you brake heavily, it brakes perfectly straight.

Morning mon vie,

Only thin I can think of is torque steer... How is the alignment of the rear axle to the front? I'm just thinking from the joint failure, could a mount have moved on the rear pulling the axle to one side and causing it to force car to steer that way? Just a thought

Not torque steer, it's actually worse coasting..., and the slower you coast the more pronounced it is!?

My tape measure says that all measurements are spot on. :-??

It's been llike it for a long time, not just since Wales.

Oh, and with my 'road' wheels (still 7", but more back spacing) the effect is worse than with my Muds??

:-s Very strange indeed.

I know over here we have large camber on our roads which effect the cars here. but generally that only affects cars with large low profile tyres.

I take it does it on all roads not just on certain ones?

The only thing I can think of is the rear is trying to catch up with the front. Did you say you measured the centre to centre of the wheels on each side?

yep, same on all roads, although it gets worse depending on the camber.

c2c is the same.

Try taking the brakes apart, it might be that the sliders have seized, and so pulling to the side. But when you brake it equalizes it and goes straight.

Undo the top and bottom bolt pull the caliper away (dont break the pipe, it can stay attached) pull the 2 bolts out, get em on a wire wheel and shiney, bit 'o' copper grease and back together. check the pads for uneven wear while your there.

thanks, but the brakes were done (recon calipers) earlier this year, I'm *SO* familiar with the rear drums that I can diagnose a problem there at 100 paces, and it's not them either.

All wheels spin freely, and were the same before and after the brakes were done (including flexis)

And 'cos I'm a picky, ungreatful old git, you shouldn't use copper grease, you should use silicone/red/brake grease for the sliders! :tongues1: :tongues1:

i'm with Kevin on this one. Something must be bent, if the brakes are working perfectly, and the tires are all in perfect order. My first thoughts where a brake sticking ever so slightly.

Just thinking, could be the stabilizer/cross bar whatchamacallit being bent or twisted. Then again, you probably don't have that anymore, do you?

Anti roll bar/no anti roll bar, makes no difference (but yes, it is fitted!)

bent steering arm etc. I can't rule it out, but as far as I can see and measure, everything is spot on. I'm running a calmini kit, but it all looks straight.

All trackrods etc are good.

My thoughts are with power steering... but I can't see how that would do it?

I should make this clear; it doesn't drift to the left, if you let go of the steering wheel, it TURNS to the left. The steering wheel actually turns to about 11 o'clock.

Out of interest could there be air in the powersteering system i.e. down one of the lines?

If you think the power steraing is somehow turning the wheel, couldn't you isolate that by putting the front end on axle stands with the engine running and see if there's any movement?

Are the bushes good, do poly bushes break down?

And at the extreme end of the scale, I take it you've done no chassis damaging snatch recoveries with it?

i cant help but think it might be worth taking it to a tyre place and getting the laser alignment, are you sure its the front? even a little application of force to the rear on either side is enough to pull the front of the car over..

:error: I stand corrected. my toolbox holds some super duper silicone grease and copper grease, trust me.
